APPLICATION FEE
Canadian citizenship application fee.
The $75 application fee is paid onine with a credit card through IRCC's payment portal. The printed receipt goes in your packet. Here's everything you need to know.
THE ESSENTIALS
Four things you need to know, in order.
The amount
$75 CAD per applicant, approximately $54 USD at current exchange rates. Your credit card issuer handles the currency conversion on your statement, and may add a 1–3% foreign transaction fee depending on the card. The fee is non-refundable once IRCC begins processing your application.
How to pay
Payment is made online through IRCC's fee portal at ircc.canada.ca/english/information/fees/pay.asp. You'll need a valid email address, a printer, and a credit card or a Debit MasterCard/Visa Debit card. If you submit any other form of payment — personal check, money order, cash, your application will get your application returnedbe returned.
The receipt
At the end of the online payment, click the button to print the IRCC official receipt with barcode. Print two copies. One copy goes in your application packet as proof of payment. Keep the second copy for your records.
Where it goes in the packet
The receipt is item 05 in the packet order — right after your citizenship photographs. Cover letter on top, then CIT 0014 checklist, then CIT 0001 application, then photos, then the receipt. Everything else (Appendix C, Line of Descent, Generational Evidence Summaries) comes after.
FOR FAMILY FILINGS
If you're filing multiple applications in one envelope — parent and children, or siblings together — IRCC allows you to pay once for everyone and include a single receipt covering all applicants. Use the online calculator to total the fees, pay the combined amount, and include the printed receipt with the packet.
LIVING OUTSIDE CANADA AND THE US WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS
Pay directly at the Canadian embassy, high commission, or consulate where you're submitting your application. Consular offices do not accept personal checks or receipts for fees paid in Canada. This path applies to a small number of descent applicants; if you have internet access, use the online portal instead.
